Purpose

Presentations are done at the NEWSUG meetings only in order to help SolidWorks users increase their skills.

Specific Guidelines

1) Keep the presentation focused on one topic.

2) Project your voice to the audience and make eye contact.

3) Avoid talking while looking at the screen if it means turning your head away from the audience.

4) Show more and say less.  We are technical people who think in images.

5) The presenter should plan for a question and answer time at the end of his presentation. Before answering a question, repeat it to the audience, so that the whole group can hear both question and answer.

6) In your interaction with NEWSUG members, always be kind and professional to promote healthy discussion. Even the most advanced user can learn from the beginner.

7) The presenter need not be skilled in the topic he is presenting provided that he is humble enough to accept suggestions from the members and he is able to present the topic as a question and not an answer.

8) Factual comments about specific features and about competing products are welcomed from NEWSUG members. Opinions must be clearly stated as opinions. Vendor comments about competing products are not welcome.

9) Before the presentation, communicate to NEWSUG board if the content is best suited toward beginning, intermediate or advanced users. This will permit placement on the agenda in the most helpful location. Always try to include some information for the beginning users.

10) Send an outline of your presentation to the NEWSUG Board two weeks before the meeting.

11) Prepare adequately, so that you can advise the NEWSUG board of the amount of time you will need, and roughly stick to that plan. Send a copy of the presentation at least two days before the meeting, so it can be tried or downloaded into the presentation computer.

12) Commercial presenters must have their presentation reviewed by NEWSUG board representatives prior to the date of the meeting. The presentation will be reviewed for relevance to NEWSUG members and focus on general content without significant sales promotions. Promotional materials can be given to, and contacts can be made with, NEWSUG members who specifically ask for it.
